Method 1 of 7: Map Creation
When you create a map, you can see the area around you
even if you haven’t explored it. This method works for players who want
to find a village in their existing survival world.
-
1Gather your materials for a map.
- You will need a compass (crafted with 4 iron ingots and 1 redstone dust like this).
- You will need 8 pieces of paper (which you can craft from sugar cane like this).
Ad -
2Open a crafting table.
-
3Place the compass in the center place.
-
4Surround it with paper.
-
5
-
6To zoom a map out, place the map in the center of a crafting table and surround it with paper.
-
7Look at your map again
-
8This method can work but is resource intensive and long.Ad
Method 2 of 7: Creative Fly
This only works if you want to start a new game knowing where a village is.
-
1Go to the Minecraft main menu, select “Single Player”, and hit “Create New World”.
-
2
-
3Select “Create New World”.
-
4
-
5Double-tap jump to fly. Then hold jump to fly up, and when you are above the landscape around you, start searching for a village.
-
6If you want to play survival, land and press t.
- Enter the following command “/gamemode survival [yournamehere]”.

Method 3 of 7: Survival Re-Creation
If you’ve followed the steps above, you can recreate the world in survival.
-
1Follow the steps listed in "Creative Fly" (above) until you find a village.
-
2Hit F3 and write down the coordinates.
- For example, x:237 z:961. (y isn't important)
-
3Quit to the main title.
-
4Select single player again, and highlight the world with the new village.
-
5Select Re-Create.
-
6Change the Game Mode to Survival.
-
7Now, when the game loads, you will be able to find your way back to the village using your coordinates (F3), but playing only survival.Ad
Method 4 of 7: Super Flat Scouting
This method makes it easier to scout for villages, but
there is no guarantee that they will always exist in a survival
non-flat world.
-
1Create a new world with the Game Mode Creative and the World Type Superflat.
-
2When the game loads, double-jump to fly, and then fly around looking for a village.
-
3When you find one, hit F3 and write down the coordinates.
-
4Exit to the main menu.
-
5Highlight this Superflat world, and Re-Create it with the game type Survival and the World Type Default (or Large Biomes).
-
6Travel to those coordinates.
-
7If the conditions are right (correct biome and enough room), a village should have spawned in the same location.Ad
Method 5 of 7: Using a Seed
Minecraft uses a random string of numbers to help
generate the world you play in. This is called the “seed”. You can
manually set the seed in the More Options menu when creating a new
world. Because of the way Minecraft generates the world around you,
entering the same number or letters will create the same world. This
means that others can find their seed (by typing /seed in the text box)
and share it to share worlds!
-
1Determine what version of Minecraft you are playing.
- On the bottom left of the main menu, before you select single player or Multiplayer, you should see white text at the bottom that tells you what version of Minecraft you are playing. You can also use the seed village.
-
2Enter that text and “Village Seed” into Google.
-
3You should find lots of Youtube videos and forum posts about seeds that have villages close to the spawn.
-
4From either the video or forum post, write down the seed, and then type it into the Seed space in the More Options menu when creating a new world.
-
5Go to the mentioned co-ordinates to find village. Enjoy!!Ad
Method 6 of 7: Superflat Survival
This requires no creative mode or cheats.
-
1Make a superflat survival world.
-
2Sprint in one direction until you see a village.Ad
Method 7 of 7: Using an Iron Golem
-
1Make an iron golem. In order to do this, you will need four blocks of iron, as each iron block is nine iron ingots. Therefore, this consists of thirty six iron ingots.
-
2Find a pumpkin. Put it in your inventory.
-
3Put the iron blocks on the ground in a T shape and the pumpkin on the top of the middle block of iron. Wait.
-
4You should now have an iron golem. It should now be walking in a straight line.
-
5Follow the iron golem until you find a village.Ad

Tips
- Remember, when you find a seed, you should only need to write down numbers or letters - don’t download anything.
- You can only really tell a village is a village when zoomed out less than 3 times.
- If you’ve used Super Flat Scouting method, you won’t find a village if your coordinates happen to be in a non-flat biome (like Extreme Hills).
- If you want to keep your survival world but not use the map method, Re-Create your Survival world as a Superflat Creative world, then use the Super Flat Scouting method. When you write down those coordinates, exit your Superflat world and travel to them in your Survival world. There might be a village there!
- Always know what biome you're in or it might just have been a waste of time. Villages can be found in plains and desert biomes, although certain chunk glitches can arise where villages are present in other biomes.
- In Minecraft 1.6.4, try the seed "Youtube"!
